Hey all. If you have not already pre-ordered your Neck Making DVD's time is running out to get them at the discounted price. Once I finish filming & Editing (which should be within the next 3-4 days) then prices will go up. The DVD's will be either 2 DVD's or possibly three. If only two then the price will rise slightly and if three then you'll really want to pre-order as you'll get them all regardless of how many. Here is a progress report for all those who have ordered already or for more info on topics I'm almost done filming (trying to finish up tomorrow). I'll be covering the fingerboard (slotting, dimensions, taper, radius, binding, inlay, side dots) the headplate and logo cutting and inlay, the neck ( starting with a 3x4x30 block and going through rough dimensioning 5 piece lay-up and gluing, truss rod routing with jig explanations, tenon routing with jig, heel profiling with jigs, shaping headstock, truss rod installation and spline making, headstock binding, fretboard gluing, tuner hole locations, neck profile shaping by hand as well with custom router bits, heel shaping, final sanding and inspection. Here is a link to the pre-order in case your interested. http://www.mayesmusic.com/index.php? main_page=product_info&products_id=446&zenid=ff9febb5a343bf9 45e 86420aa4aa7c2b Thanks! John Mayes |

Thanks to all that have ordered thus far! I just wanted to restate that the luthiers forum 10% discount is not valid for this DVD set right now (it IS valid on all the other items). It is discounted already. It will be when it releases, but the price will be higher then. I'm ALMOST done filming... just taking a lot longer than I thought. I'll keep you all posted.... |

John, I've been watching your other videos that I got this week. They are great. Can't wait for the new one. BTW, the shipping was very fast on the others. |

I won't do diamond volutes as I've not much practice in them as I don't use them and I would probably butcher it... |

Tres Cool... I've never attempted the diamond ones either, I don't like things that are sharp or pointy like that on my guitars anyway so I would probably never do one ![]() And this is a plug for John's video's ![]() ![]() Thanks John.. -Paul- |

I agree with Paul and Tracy 100%. I have already seen several little things that I never thought of that will make the process so much simpler. John does a great job of explaining them too. The audio on the first 3 was a little weak though. Great job John! |
The audio on the first 3 was a little weak though.
Yep that was a problem. I borrowed someone scamera for that and used the internal mic. For the new ones (voicing and newer) I bought an external high quality condensor shotgun microphone. Sound quailty is really good now... one reason why the first ones were cheaper... Editing capabilites are better now that I invested in better editing software too. Thanks for the nice commnets everyone. I'm just thrilled I could help your journey in building guitars. It is a fun one for sure. |

John, I just started on the voicing video today. The audio is much much better. Just to clarify a little, the others have great information, it was only the sound quality that wasn't great. Looking forward to the next one. |

Looking forward to the next one.
Actually the quality is ok, just the levels of the audio is low so you have to really turn up the TV (but I know that is what ya meant :) ). I actually have the editing software to fix that, but I would have to redo the entire videos and that would take days... oh well some cheap videos with lots of good info... Thanks guys! |
